Just like its latest mountain handlebars, ENVE takes its M-Series wheel naming structure and applies it to its stems helping to categorize the product for its intended use and rider. The M6 Stem is essentially quite similar to the original mountain stem, coming in the same lengths, 37mm stack height, and 31. 8mm bar clamp diameter, while the M7 is built a tad bit beefier, with a 40mm stack and offered in shorter lengths designed to pair with its new 35mm clamp bars. What wasn't lost on these stem redesigns was the strength to weight ratio that crushes any aluminum stem on the market while maintaining the ability to mute hand-numbing trail vibrations. Besides the fact that its looks and design are purpose-built for the new M5 and M6 handlebars, the other reason you should be riding one is the weight or lack thereof. All of the stems come in under 100-grams except the longest, the 85 millimeters, which weighs in at a claimed 104 grams. This is in part due to the unidirectional carbon fiber construction which is so tough, ENVE molds the threads to accept the titanium hardware, versus the commonly accepted, heavier, and potentially weaker process of pressing in aluminum inserts. Its only concession to aluminum is its faceplate where we're sure if ENVE thought that carbon would have been at an advantage here, it would have used it. The end result is a stem that's light and durable enough that doesn't flinch at the prospect of fast cross-country racing or rugged trail and lighter duty enduro events.
